DOE/Ames Lab Pentium Pro Cluster Workshop

In addition to being one of the speakers at this invitation-only workshop, it seemed appropriate to bring one of the clusters to use for live demonstrations. Since the drive to Des Moines, IA, is a bit long, the Microcluster was the ideal choice.

TTL_PAPERS Microcluster.

The microcluster has been shown before, and the hardware configuration is still the same (although the Compaq Aero machines have gotten flakey and we had to cannibalize the fifth machine to keep the other four going). However, this time the software was the latest AFAPI. Further, the PENjr meta-OS was used to run the demonstrations; this is a qualitative improvement from the old software, which had required that everything be wrapped into a single demonstration program.

The next public demonstration of PAPERS at a conference was August 1997 at the Languages and Compilers for Parallel Computing workshop, but we don't have a page for that... so on to the next one in November 1997 at IEEE/ACM Supercomputing.

The Aggregate. The only thing set in stone is our name.
