References: EE380 I/O

The book's handling of I/O is fairly weak... but so was our coverage of this topic. You should recall what each of the different types of I/O devices physically looks like from the start of this course, and also you should recall the different ways these I/O devices are connected (e.g., PCI, ISA, USB, etc.).

Thus, the new material is primarily how these I/O devices are handled WRT the processor. You should understand:

• Polling, Interupts, and DMA (and how additional processors are used to reduce main processor overhead in handling I/O)
• Memory and I/O Space mapping
